Kuala Lumpur – Singapore authorities have tipped off their Italian counterparts that an associate of soccer match-fixing suspect Tan Seet Eng, also known as Dan Tan, will be arriving in Milan on a flight in a few hours, international police agency Interpol said on Thursday.
“The man is wanted by the Italian authorities for his alleged involvement in match-fixing under the organisation based in Singapore and controlled by Tan Seet Eng,” said Ronald Noble, the secretary-general of Interpol, speaking at an international conference on combating matchfixing in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.
“He is not a Singapore national.”
A joint inquiry by Europol, the European anti-crime agency, and national prosecutors has identified about 680 suspicious matches including qualifying games for the World Cup and European Championships, and for Europe's Champions League.
Italian authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Dan Tan, who is suspected of masterminding the match-fixing syndicate from Singapore.
Singapore is working with European authorities investigating the syndicate but has come under pressure to arrest and extradite the main suspect.
Noble said the suspected associate was arriving on a flight from Singapore and would be detained at Milan airport. – Reuters
