Bafana Bafana’s preparations ahead of the upcoming African Nations Championships (Chan) could be thrown into chaos, with the majority of the players selected for the tournament set to withdraw from the original 23-man squad.

Coach Gordon Igesund and his side are expected in Cape Town today for the start of a 10-day camp ahead of the tournament opener against Mozambique at Cape Town Stadium. But it seems that a few Premier Soccer League clubs, including Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, have instructed their players not to report for duty.

If those players don’t report for camp today, Igesund will be forced to select a number of other players from a small selection of clubs.

Orlando Pirates, Ajax Cape Town, SuperSport United and AmaZulu players were not considered for the 23-man squad because they have to play catch-up matches this month, which is in the middle of the CHAN.

Chiefs and Sundowns face-off on the 23th of this month in a crucial Premiership match that could have a massive impact on the title race. Amakhosi are also preparing for their African Champions League campaign.

Bafana have been grouped with Mozambique, Mali and Nigeria for the tournament, which runs until the first of next month, with matches in Cape Town, Bloemfontein and Polokwane. - The Star
