JOHANNESBURG – Benni McCarthy might not be ready to coach Bafana Bafana just yet, but he will have a say in who takes over from axed Shakes Mashaba after he was included in the search committee for the vacant national team post.

South Africa’s all-time goal scorer, McCarthy is one of 10 list of names revealed by Safa late yesterday, with former captains Lucas Radebe and Neil Tovey, now the association’s technical director, also part of the group.

Mashaba was sacked in December last year for gross misconduct, insubordination and violating the Safa communication policy. He is, however, disputing his dismissal and his fate will be decided by an arbitrator at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration hearing on March 7, 8 and 9.

In the meantime, the search for his successor continues and Herve Renard as well as Carlos Queiroz are believed to be front-runners for the job. Safa want to appoint a new coach at the end of this month, well in time for the friendly international matches against Angola and Guinea-Bissau during Fifa dates schedule for later in March.
