SuerSport United defender Bongani Khumalo is off to England in January after signing a pre-contract with Tottenham Hotspur.
London – Tottenham has reached an agreement with SuperSport United to sign South Africa defender Bongani Khumalo when the transfer window reopens in January.
The 23-year-old Khumalo, who played in all three of South Africa's matches in the World Cup this year, has signed a pre-contract with the English Premier League club and will move for a reported fee of 1.5 million pounds (about R16.2 million).
Spurs have struggled for cover at center back this season, with Jonathan Woodgate a long-term absentee because of a groin problem and both Ledley King and Michael Dawson also sidelined by injury.
Khumalo, who impressed Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp during a trial last month, will move subject to a work permit being granted. – AP

Wonderful, Khumalo as a defender can read the game very well. He will easily fit in at Tottenham and with a great coach like Harry Redknapp Khumalo can improve much more.
