MUNICH, Germany – European champions Bayern Munich are hoping to be able to welcome back Spain midfielder Thiago Alcantara before the end of the season as he recovers from a knee injury.

The 23-year-old partially tore the medial ligament in his right knee four weeks ago, but returned to training on Saturday and Sunday at Bayern's Saebener Strasse training ground.

The Bundesliga champions are hoping Alcantara will be able to play again with two weeks left of the Bundesliga season and Alcantara aiming to be fit for Spain for the World Cup in Brazil.

Bayern will face Borussia Dortmund in the German Cup final on May 17 and are bidding for a place in the Champions League final in Lisbon on May 24 when they host Real Madrid on Tuesday in the semi-final, second leg, with the Spaniards holding a 1-0 lead.– Sapa-AFP
