AmaZulu booked their place in the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 when they defeated United FC 2-0 at Olympia Park on Sunday afternoon.

United FC captain Mpho Mvelase scored an own-goal early in the first half before Bongani Ndulula sealed the win after the break.

United FC did get the ball into the back of the net in the 17th minute when Abram Mahlaba beat Tapuwa Kapini from close range, but the goal was not allowed to stand as he was adjudged to have strayed offside.

Siyabonga Zulu then drew a comfortable low save from the AmaZulu goalkeeper in the 20th minute, while Alfred Lekata volleyed over the crossbar three minutes later.

The hosts continued to threaten will long range shots and in the 31st minute Mahlaba watched his solid strike flying just wide of Kapini’s left post.

United had a chance to equalise in the 53rd minute when Matlaba got his shot on target from just inside the box, but his shot was well-held by Kapini.

Manqana almost got his name on the score sheet in the 69th minute, only to be denied by a good save from Gatsha Majola after he was set up by Ayanda Dlamini.
