Johannesburg - The final four sides remaining in this year's Nedbank Cup competition are one step closer to glory and making their dreams of lifting the coveted Nedbank Cup trophy come true.

After an intriguing set of quarterfinals that once again highlighted the extraordinary drama and entertainment produced by South Africa's premier knockout competition, fans know the step each side needs to take to reach the Nedbank Cup final on May 28.

Orlando Pirates stunned holders Mamelodi Sundowns with a 2-0 extra-time victory at a packed Lucas Moripe Stadiumon Saturday. It was a match played in an electric atmosphere that saw Pirates striker Tendai Ndoro leap to the top of the Nedbank Cup goal-scorers charts as he bagged his fifth of the campaign to go with an Mpho Makola strike.

Pirates will now lock horns with Free State Stars in the semifinals after the latter edged past BidVest Wits with a 5-4 penalty shoot-out victory following a 0-0 draw in Bethlehem.

It is the fourth time since 2008 that Stars have reached the Nedbank Cup semi-finals, but they are yet to advance to the trophy decider. National First Division Baroka FC continued their love-affair with the Nedbank Cup as they became the first side to reach the semi-finals of the competition twice having never played in the South African top-flight.

They beat provincial rivals Polokwane City 2-0 to set up a semi-final meeting at 2012 champions SuperSport United, who edged Mpumalanga Black Aces 2-1 on Friday night.

The semifinals are scheduled to be played the weekend of May 14 and 15, with the exact dates, venues and kick-off times to be confirmed by the Premier Soccer League in due course. - African News Agency (ANA)
