OR Tambo International Airport – A rare smile of contentment flickered across Irvin Khoza's face as South African professional football's el supremo as he spoke of the significance of Mamelodi Sundowns' Caf Champions League success.

"This is an emotional occasion for two reasons. Back in 1995 Patrice Motsepe's father held the trophy high when (Orlando) Pirates returned as champions from Ivory Coast. Now it is Patrice holding the trophy today," Khoza said, amidst the noise made by the singing fans and those who blew vuvuzelas as well as tho brass band.

"I hope that this achievement will restore our integrity as a top footballing nation on the continent."

Khoza said he believes Sundowns' success will have a positive impact on the game in the country in general.

"Back in 1995 after Pirates won the Cup, Bafana Bafana went on to win tho Nations Cup in 1996. My hope is that one day we will have two South African teams play in the Champions League.

"This win shows there is talent in this country. We just need to manage it well."

Having addressed the media impromptty, Lukas joined the other dignitaries, among them Fikile Mbalula, David Makhuraa, Danny Jordaan as well as some PSL club represantstives to welcome the champions.

Hlompho Kekana led his team carrying the trophy as the crowd broke into songs of celebration as the whole team, champions medals dangling down their necks, greeted the officials.

The entire airport outside parking bay space was painted yellow with some of the fnabs up on the rafters at the arrivals zone.

Speeches were to follow shortly.
