Johannesburg – Maluti FET College captain Lucky Mokoena has fired a warning at African Warriors as the giant killers look to progress further in the Nedbank Cup.
The third-tier outfit, who dumped Soweto giants Orlando Pirates from the competition with the biggest shock of the first round, will face National First Division (NFD) side Warriors in the last-16 stage, after the draw was held in Johannesburg on Thursday.
“African Warriors must respect us,” Mokoena said.
“We are not pushovers and this is going to be a tough game.”
Mokoena believed his side could progress all the way to the final, and he felt they had proved their ability with a crushing 4-1 victory over the Buccaneers.
“We want to go all the way and make history,” he said.
“We have shown that Maluti FET has the skills and the team to compete.”
The only other amateur side to progress beyond the last 32, Tembu Royals, will square up against Premiership side Maritzburg United. Royals defeated top-flight strugglers AmaZulu in Umlazi on Wednesday.
Premiership leaders Kaizer Chiefs will host NFD outfit Polokwane City, and Amakhosi skipper Itumeleng Khune said they were wary of their NFD opponents, who coasted past Island FC with a 7-2 win in the last round.
“Any team that can score seven goals in one game must be a good side,” said the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.
“We will sit down before the game and do some research on them.”
Meanwhile, title-holders SuperSport United will square up against NFD team Vasco da Gama.
In top-flight clashes, Black Leopards host Platinum Stars, Mamelodi Sundowns are at home to Golden Arrows and Free State Stars face Bloemfontein Celtic.
Jomo Cosmos host fellow NFD team United FC in the last of eight matches.
The Premier Soccer League said dates and venues would be announced at a later stage.
