Oslo – A Norwegian punter has won 5,600 kroner (about R10 000) after placing a bet that Uruguay striker Luis Suarez would bite an Italian player when the two sides met at the World Cup, a Norwegian daily reported Wednesday.

“It is the craziest bet I have made,” Thomas Syversen was quoted as telling the Aftenposten daily of his bet worth roughly $5.

The 23-year-old, who earns his living playing poker, said he did not see the incident live but saw replays of it.

“It was quite special, and a success for me,” Syversen said.

Syversen said Suarez, who plays for English Premier League side Liverpool, “ is a great football player, but I am a Blackpool fan. Therefore I don’t have a Suarez shirt.

But perhaps I’ll buy one for my girlfriend, she likes to wear my football shirts and its her birthday on Saturday,” Syversen said. – Sapa-dpa
