Wayne Rooney is expected to return for Manchester United tonight in their FA Cup third-round replay against West Ham after recovering from a knee injury.

The England striker will play his first game this year — possibly from the bench — after shaking off a problem he picked up in training over Christmas.

Portugal winger Nani is also expected to face Sam Allardyce’s team having been absent since early November due to hamstring problems. However, Ashley Young will miss the game and the weekend trip to Tottenham, and centre back Nemanja Vidic is reported to have concussion, despite leaving Sunday’s 2-1 defeat of Liverpool rubbing his troublesome right knee.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: ‘Young has a dull knock, a little bit of strain on the knee. It’s nothing serious. I think he will be back next week.

‘Vidic’s knee is OK. He has trained. He had a little bit of concussion.’

Kick-off: 8.05pm, Old Trafford.

TV & Radio: LIVE on ITV1 from 7.30pm, talkSPORT from 7pm.
