Johannesburg - Thabo Senong will hope history doesn’t repeat itself when his side take on the likes of Senegal, Sudan and Cameroon in their upcoming Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations matches set to take place in Zambia early next year.

South Africa’s national Under-20 squad (Amajita) were pitted in Group B, following a draw which was conducted in Cairo, Egypt on Monday.

In the 2015 edition, Senong’s charges failed to progress to the next round of the competition, which saw them ultimately miss out on a opportunity to secure their place in the Under-20 Fifa World Cup which took place in New Zealand later that very year.

South Africa finished third in that group to eventual finalists Nigeria and Senegal with a single win to show for their efforts.

Group A will see hosts Zambia battle it out with the likes of Egypt, Guinea and Mali in pursuit of a top four finish that will see them book their place in next year’s South Korea Fifa Under-20 World Cup tournament.
