Swallows to face Supersport in Nedbank CupComment on this story
Johannesburg – An all-Premiership clash awaits in the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup after the draw on Thursday pitted Moroka Swallows against SuperSport United.
United defender Bevan Fransman said he was happy with the draw despite the Premiership opposition.
“It's a tough draw against tough opponents but we don't dictate the fixtures,” Fransman said.
“We've played Swallows already this season and it was again a tough outing but we'll be up for it.”
Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates were kept apart as the Amakhosi drew the only Safa Second Division side left in the tournament, Buffalo FC, at home.
Chiefs midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane believed the draw was one that favoured Chiefs – the defending champions – but admitted the lowly second division side deserved plenty of praise for progressing into the second round.
“ (We are) happy with the draw... Buffalo have done really well to get to this point,” Letsholonyane said.
“Obviously we can't afford to take them lightly and we will make sure that we approach the game just like any other.”
Pirates, meanwhile, we're drawn away from home and will face National First Division outfit Santos in Cape Town.
AmaZulu benefited from a home draw, though a daunting prospect awaits as Wits come visiting.
The Clever Boys have been in superb form lately and have made headway in the Premiership, where they occupy third on the table.
Mamelodi Sundowns will travel to fellow top-flight outfit Golden Arrows, while Platinum Stars meet Maritzburg United, who beat Mpumalanga Black Aces in the opening round.
