Warsaw – European football's governing body on Tuesday said it was taking action against the German football federation (DFB) over the behaviour of its supporters during the country's match with Denmark.

“The DFB is charged with the setting-off of fireworks and the improper conduct of supporters (display of inappropriate banners and symbols and inappropriate chanting),” Uefa said in a statement.

The case will be heard on Saturday, it added.

Germany, beaten finalists in Euro 2008, won Sunday's match in Lviv, Ukraine, 2-1, taking them through to a quarter-final meeting with 2004 champions Greece in Gdansk, Poland, on Friday.

The latest disciplinary proceedings are the third of the tournament for the DFB.

A ruling is awaited for similar incidents at the country's match with the Netherlands on June 13. – Sapa-AFP
