CAPE TOWN - Fives Futbol will be offering Cape Argus SportShow attendees an exciting opportunity to get involved and become fives champions at this weekend’s event at Sandringham.

Fives Futbol is an exciting and fast paced, end-to-end game that can be played on small pitches, urban locations and with the use of short game times and manageable team sizes makes the small-sided game more accessible than conventional 11-a-side football.

Jed Cohen from Fives Futbol explained that other than social matches taking place at the SportShow they will also offer junior programmes and a winner stays on competition this weekend.

“On the Friday we’ll be running an open kick-around social match and running social games. There will be no sign-up needed for that and then we’ll also be doing our Fives speed gun where attendees can test the power of their shot.

“Saturday and Sunday morning it will be a junior programme for children between 5-17 years old, where we will have professional coaches down for two hours till 12pm,” Cohen said.

“Then from 2pm-4pm, we will have adult Winner Stays On tournament where guys can pre-sign up for that on the website, and then can battle it out against other teams. The winner of those then gets to stay on.

“It is open to the public and pre-sign up is available on our website. The requirement for the winner stays tournament is that each team participating needs four players and a goalie. It’s not too serious and it is a quick game because first one to score a goal then gets to stay on.”

Cohen added that attending the Fives Futbol showcase at the SportShow was also an exciting way to become familiar with the growing sport.

Tickets are available at the SportShow site (www.sportshow.co.za) as well as at Computicket. Gates open from 9am-6pm at the weekend. Entrance costs R150 (adults), R80 (children) and R200 for a weekend pass. Children under 3 enter free.
