Durban - Durban multibillionaire couple Shauwn and S’bu Mpisane will on Saturday reveal and officially launch their latest acquisition, a football team.

The power couple, who have been dogged by controversy for several years, will launch their latest business venture at a glitzy function at Moses Mabhida stadium.

The couple bought the football club, the Royal Eagles, earlier this year.

The club, which will play in the national first division, was formerly known as Sivutsa Stars, and was based in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.

S’bu, who is chairman of the club, said last night he was excited about venturing into sports. The club would play the bulk of their home games at Umlazi’s King Zwelithini stadium or Princess Magogo stadium in KwaMashu.

“But we will play our first few games at Moses Mabhida stadium because the stadiums in Umlazi and KwaMashu are undergoing renovations,” he said.

During Saturday’s event, S’bu is expected to reveal his new player signings and the team’s kit.

“He will also reveal his plans about the team, why he bought it and his goal,” said the couple’s publicist, Sane Bhengu.

According to reliable sources, S’bu has already recruited well-known players from the top-flight league, including players from Sundowns, AmaZulu and Black Aces.

The team is coached by Duncan Lechesa and the team manager is Richard Makhoba.

The team will play its first game on Friday against Baroko FC.

That game will be followed by an even bigger and glitzier cocktail launch, which is expected to be attended by soccer stakeholders and a host of the Mpisanes’ celebrity friends.

While it is not clear how much the Mpisanes paid for the club, Sivutsa Stars was earlier this year believed to be worth between R10 million and R15m.
