Berlin – Uefa President Michel Platini is still considering whether to run for the post of Fifa president in 2015.
“I don't know what I will do. I have been thinking about it for a long time now since almost everybody asks me about it,” Platini told the German sports magazine Kicker on Thursday.
“President (Joseph) Blatter has already announced that he will be leaving. The post will be vacant - we will see for whom.”
The 77-year-old Blatter has since pulled back a bit on his withdrawal announcement from 2011, hinting that he may stand for re-election in two years' time.
When asked if he thought Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge would take over as the Uefa boss, Platini said:
While the Frenchman said Rummenigge had the personality to do it, he noted: “It's just not on his career path. I have worked in Uefa and Fifa since 1998. That's not his way. I also believe that he's not interested at all in it.”
Platini also defended Uefa in the on-going debate about the planned reform within Fifa saying: “It's ridiculous to accuse the European federations of being conservative.” – Sapa-dpa
