Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen believes Anfield has again become a daunting place for rival players after regaining its fear factor.

The famous old stadium used to create a sense of nervousness for visiting teams when the Liverpool sides swept all before them in the glory days of the Seventies and Eighties.

This season Liverpool have chalked up 11 victories in 13 Premier League matches on their own patch, scoring 38 goals in the process.

In their last two games alone they recorded thumping 5-1 and 4-0 wins over Arsenal and Everton respectively with both sides blown away in a whirlwind of attacking play.

Ahead of today’s clash with old club Swansea City, 23-year-old Allen believes the manner in which Liverpools have beaten teams will create tension in the visitors’ dressing room.

‘There is a difference this season. No team are looking forward to coming to Anfield any more,’ Allen said.

‘In my season in the Premier League with Swansea, Anfield was a game you looked forward to playing in. You really felt that you could go out and strut your stuff almost.

‘Now there is a big difference in the home form and the way we are finishing off teams is the reason we have moved on.’

And title rivals Chelsea and Manchester City must still play at Anfield.– Mail On Sunday
