London – Tottenham Hotspur coach Andre Villas-Boas has warned former player Luka Modric after the Croatian midfielder encouraged Spurs' in-form winger Gareth Bale to join him at Real Madrid.

Modric, who left White Hart Lane this summer, told Friday's edition of British newspaper The Sun: “I know Gareth has a big dream of winning the Champions League and Madrid would be a great club for him to achieve it.”

Wales international Bale, 23, has spoken in the past of his desire to play abroad, but Villas-Boas says it would be “completely impossible” for Tottenham to sell him.

“I think he (Modric) should focus more on his club than ours,” Villas-Boas told a press conference.

“He has to worry about (Madrid's) game against Atletico Madrid and about getting into the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

“Obviously Modric is aware of Gareth's performances because of his love for Tottenham and the fact that he is very connected with him and this football club, but it's completely impossible.” – Sapa-AFP
