London – Chelsea will offer to help John Terry become a manager when discussions over his contract extension begin.
The captain is taking his Uefa ‘B’ licence and has made no secret of his aspiration to go into management once his playing days are over.
Terry’s immediate future at Stamford Bridge remains unclear with his contract due to expire at the end of the season. Chelsea are keen on presenting the former England defender with coaching opportunities, at academy level first, as an incentive to sign a new deal.
However, it is understood Terry wants to stay fully focused on his playing career at the moment.
At 33, the centre back has recaptured his best form under Jose Mourinho, leading to calls for Roy Hodgson to reinstate him in the England set-up.
Despite his status at Stamford Bridge, keeping Terry at the club will not be a formality.
It is Chelsea’s policy to offer only a 12-month extension to players who are over 30, while Terry is thought to want a two-year deal with an option for a further season. – Daily Mail
