London – Marouane Fellaini has told Roberto Martinez that he wants to leave Everton.
The move comes as Manchester United on Thursday upped their bid for the Belgian midfielder – and left back Leighton Baines – to £36million.
The 25-year-old Belgian international has not handed in an official transfer request but has indicated verbally that he would like to go.
Everton have already rejected an offer of £26 million from their former manager, David Moyes. But United’s new offer cranks up the pressure on the Merseyside club with three days until the transfer window closes.
Manager Martinez, who faces losing two of his top players since arriving from Wigan in June, admitted on Thursday the club are making contingency plans if Fellaini and Baines go.
He said: “The way you work in the transfer market is to always think about the unthinkable. You always have to work in a way which means that if the worst was to happen, and you picked up one or two injuries, you need to replace players. That’s the norm so you always have to work like that.
“I have told the chairman (Bill Kenwright) I don’t want to know anything that’s going on (with United). I only want to know the final news. I have had enough of ‘he said this, he said that’. This is sensitive.” – Daily Mail
