Loris Karius has won the battle to be Liverpool’s No 1 after Jurgen Klopp selected the goalkeeper to face Hull City today.

Liverpool’s manager has been wrestling with the decision of whether to stick with Simon Mignolet, who has played in every Premier League game since the start of the campaign, or go with Karius, who made his debut at Derby in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

Klopp made his choice late yesterday and Mignolet was told before training.

Karius arrived from Mainz in June for £5million but the 23-year-old missed the start of the season after breaking his hand.

Meanwhile, Klopp recognises Liverpool must still prove their credentials to critics despite a fine start to the season. Recently, Liverpool have made a habit of falling over in games against teams they are supposed to beat — such as Hull.

‘We have to develop and improve but it’s not allowed that everyone thinks against Hull we need to be perfect,’ said Klopp.

‘They shouldn’t say that if it doesn’t work it’s still the same old problem.

‘We are in a good way (but) let’s still be aware of difficulties. Hull will be difficult.’
