London - Jurgen Klopp has made it clear Liverpool are not targeting ‘Galactico’ signings and said he is only interested in players who are committed to the cause.

Liverpool have brought four players in, the standout addition being Sadio Mane at £30million. Klopp turned to the Senegal forward after Mario Gotze, with whom he had worked at Borussia Dortmund, showed a reluctance to leave Bayern Munich.

Fans are impatient to see Klopp (below) invest heavily but he is not thinking of making too many additions, particularly as Liverpool have stalled in their quest to sign Ben Chilwell from Leicester and Piotr Zielinski from Udinese.

Klopp would like to land Borussia Moenchengladbach midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud and also wants a central defender, but he is not interested in bringing players in based purely on their name.

‘This period in every year is one of a lot of expectations,’ said Klopp. ‘Everyone expects big names and a big improvement because of big names. Some clubs have already done a lot (of transfer business) but you cannot prove in this moment what’s really right. You only have to look at the European Championships.

‘There were wonderful examples of what football really is - about building a team, creating a bond between the team, supporters and whole countries.’
