London - Arsenal says France defender Laurent Koscielny has agreed to sign a new long-term contract with the Premier League club.

Arsenal declined to reveal the length of the contract in announcing the deal on its website on Tuesday.

Koscielny says “I have had a fantastic time here and look forward to an exciting future with Arsenal.”

The 26-year-old Koscielny was signed by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger from French club Lorient in 2010. He has played more games for the team than any other player since arriving, making 85 appearances.

Koscielny scored the winning goal against West Bromwich Albion last season that secured Arsenal's qualification to the Champions League.

He was also a part of France's European Championship squad, playing the whole match in the 2-0 loss to Spain in the quarterfinals. - Sapa-AP
