Newcastle to appeal Remy red cardComment on this story
London – Newcastle United have appealed against the sending-off of Loic Remy, which is set to sideline the Frenchman from Saturday's north-east Premier League derby match against Sunderland.
The 27-year-old was dismissed along with Norwich's Bradley Johnson after the pair came together nine minutes from time during a goalless league draw at Carrow Road on Tuesday.
A Newcastle spokesman said Thursday: “Newcastle United can confirm that the club has lodged an appeal with the Football Association for the wrongful dismissal of Loic Remy during Tuesday's Barclays Premier League fixture with Norwich City at Carrow Road.
“Remy was given a straight red card by referee Chris Foy in the 81st minute of the game following an incident involving Norwich City's Bradley Johnson.”
Norwich announced on Wednesday that they would appeal against the red card shown to Johnson.
Should Remy's appeal fail, he will miss the league games against Sunderland, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. – Sapa-AFP
