QPR striker Bobby Zamora celebrates after his team won the English Championships final against Derby County at Wembley.

London – QPR striker Bobby Zamora was rewarded for firing his club back into the Premier League as he signed a new one-year contract on Wednesday.

Zamora scored the last-gasp goal that earned Harry Redknapp's side a 1-0 win over Derby in the Championship play-off final in May.

The 33-year-old was out of contract following his Wembley heroics and it seemed he may not join QPR in the top-flight as he held talks with other clubs including Championship team Millwall.

But former Tottenham and West Ham star Zamora, whose winner against Derby was worth an estimated £80 million in additional revenue for QPR, has now agreed a 12-month contract extension.

“I'm over the moon. I've had an up-and-down time at QPR. I started off really well but then picked up a couple of injuries and didn't perform as well as I wanted to,” Zamora told QPR's website.

“But at the end of last year, after coming back following injury, I thought whenever I was called upon to do a job, I did it well.”

Zamora has made 59 appearances since joining QPR from west London rivals Fulham, scoring 11 times. – Sapa-AFP
