London - Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri has insisted he would not swap Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney for any of his title-winning squad.

Rooney’s form has attracted criticism in recent weeks and Ranieri, whose side visit Old Trafford tomorrow, said: ‘He is an amazing player. He is a champion. But I love my players and I wouldn’t change them with anybody else. I’m very pleased with them and I think we can have a very good season.’

Ranieri also said his feud with United manager Jose Mourinho is a thing of the past. The pair clashed when they were rivals in Italy with Ranieri, then with Roma, saying that Inter Milan boss Mourinho lacked respect.

But Ranieri claims the animosity is forgotten. ‘It’s prehistoric now,’ he said. ‘Mourinho is a great manager and a fantastic person. He is OK.’

Leicester are sweating on the fitness of Kasper Schmeichel for tomorrow’s game. After overcoming a recent hernia operation and concussion, the goalkeeper has picked up a muscle injury in training.
