London - Newcastle striker Loic Remy will miss his team's derby showdown against Sunderland on Saturday after failing in a bid to get his suspension overturned.
French star Remy, on loan from QPR, was sent off along with Norwich midfielder Bradley Johnson after the pair clashed late in Tuesday's 0-0 Premier League draw at Carrow Road.
Newcastle appealed against the subsequent ban, but while Johnson's own effort to clear his name was upheld, Remy's fell on deaf ears and the forward, who has 11 goals this season, will now miss the league games against Sunderland, Chelsea and Tottenham.
A Football Association statement said: “An independent regulatory commission heard two claims of wrongful dismissal today both in relation to the Norwich City versus Newcastle United game on Tuesday.
“The claim involving Norwich's Bradley Johnson was upheld, meaning his three-match suspension is withdrawn.
“The claim involving Newcastle's Loic Remy was dismissed, therefore his three-match suspension remains with immediate effect.
“Both players had been dismissed for violent conduct.”
