Brendan Rodgers has warned Liverpool’s title rivals to prepare for their ‘toughest 90 minutes of the season’ when they head to Anfield.

Liverpool looked to be slipping out of contention after successive defeats at Manchester City and Chelsea sent them from top to fifth, but all the frontrunners have still to visit Anfield and Rodgers believes that could prove decisive.

Since losing 1-0 to Southampton at Anfield on September 21, Liverpool have reeled off six straight home wins, scoring 23 goals. It has created an aura that could discomfort City, Chelsea and Arsenal, according to Rodgers.

‘All the top teams apart from United have to come to Anfield, and we are a force there,’ said the Liverpool manager. ‘If we can reinforce this group of players during January, it will set us up nicely.

‘We have been beating teams comfortably at home. I always wanted teams coming here to have to endure their toughest 90 minutes of the season and I think we are a good part down that road.

‘The important thing for me has been the consistency. If you look back at the four, five and even six-goal hauls we’ve had, you’ll see we have done it on a regular basis.

‘The Anfield factor means it (the title) is still in our own hands and that really does fill me with confidence for what lies ahead.

‘City, for instance, have played a lot at home and so have to travel. And they have had their difficulties on the road.

‘So, for us, the second half of the season, with so much of it to be played out at Anfield, is going to be massive.’
