Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff pocketed a staggering £31.4million from Chelsea for being sacked by the club twice.

Mourinho received an £8.3m payout when he was dismissed by Chelsea in December 2015.

And when the Portuguese was sacked by Roman Abramovich in 2007, he and his staff received an astonishing £23.1m compensation, which so angered the club’s owner that he vowed never to let it happen again.

Mourinho and his team - Rui Faria, Silvino Louro, Jose Morais and Carlos Lalin - still managed to take what appears to be a year’s money out of Chelsea last season. All but Morais are now on similar terms at Manchester United.

Chelsea’s latest accounts, revealed on Saturday, also showed they paid £67m to rip up their kit deal with adidas last year - much higher than the £40m previously thought - which contributed to £70.6m losses last season.

However, the club doubled the value of their kit deal by signing for 15 years with Nike for £900m.
