Galatasaray plan to take advantage of John Terry’s predicament at Chelsea by signing him on a three-year contract worth up to £200,000 a week.

The big-spending Turkish club, who signed Didier Drogba and Wesley Sneijder in January, believe they can convince the Chelsea captain, 32, to end his love affair at Stamford Bridge after 14 hugely successful years.

Although their trump card is the £30million in wages they will offer him, they hope his increasingly fragile position as a first-team player at Chelsea could tip the balance in Galatasaray’s favour.

Terry is no longer considered a regular by interim manager Rafa Benitez and the defender’s future will be dictated in the summer by Chelsea’s incoming manager. The former England captain, who has been relegated to a squad player under Benitez, has just over a year left on his £150,000-a-week contract.

Galatasaray are spending big to attract some of Europe’s top names as they bid to make an impact in the Champions League.

The Turks, beaten by Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final, believe Chelsea will sell for around £8million and will offer Terry a three-year deal.

Terry is aware of Galatasaray’s interest but wants to discover whether he has a future in the

first team at Chelsea before deciding whether or not it is time to leave.

The defender had hoped Chelsea would open talks over extending his deal, but they have yet to do so.

Last month, Terry said his loyalty to the Blues, where he has played since he turned professional in 1999, meant he could never play for a rival English club. But he did hint he would move abroad if Chelsea did not offer him another deal or the next manager could not offer him guarantees about his role.

Terry has become disillusioned under Benitez and their relationship is best described as cordial.

The central defender, 32, has fallen behind David Luiz, Branislav Ivanovic and Gary Cahill as Benitez has juggled his squad for Premier League and Europa League games.

The Chelsea skipper is known to be furious at his treatment and was seen storming out of the training ground at the club’s Europa League press day on Thursday.

Benitez later suggested Terry, along with Frank Lampard, are unlikely to start Wednesday’s final in Amsterdam against Benfica.

Chelsea travel to Aston Villa today and Benitez would confirm only that Lampard, one goal away from Bobby Tambling’s scoring record, would start. – Daily Mail
