London, England – Argentina forward Erik Lamela completed his move from Roma to Tottenham Hotspur on Friday, becoming the club's second signing of the day and sixth of the summer.
“We are delighted to announce that we've reached agreement with AS Roma for the transfer of Erik Lamela,” Spurs said on their Twitter feed.
Roma had already announced an agreement to sell the 21-year-old Lamela on Wednesday for 30 million euros (£25.6m, $39.6m) plus a potential 5 million euros more in bonuses.
Despite spending a month out injured during last season, Lamela scored 15 times in 33 games for Roma to finish as Serie A's joint-fifth top scorer and his club's second behind Pablo Osvaldo (16).
Tottenham have now spent approximately £92.8 million in this transfer window following the signings of Lamela, Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, Nacer Chadli and Vlad Chiriches.
Romanian international defender Chiriches, 23, joined from Steaua Bucharest earlier in the day for a fee in the region of £8.5million.
Spurs are also reportedly close to signing Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen from Ajax.
Should the deal for the Dane go through, it is likely to pave the way for Gareth Bale to complete his proposed world-record move to Real Madrid. – Sapa-AFP
