Brendan Rodgers has tipped Raheem Sterling for Englands World Cup squad.

London - Brendan Rodgers has tipped Raheem Sterling for England’s World Cup squad.

Twelve months ago, Sterling signed a long-term deal after a brilliant start in the Barclays Premier League, and picked England, rather than Jamaica, where he was born.

Then Sterling, 19, suffered a thigh problem, which prevented him making England’s Under 21 squad for the Euros. He also had off-the-field issues, including court dates.

Now he has scored three in his last four appearances.

‘Raheem has every opportunity with England,’ said Rodgers. ‘He’s been able to showcase his talents. He’s done very well for the Under 21s.’

Sterling, who made his full debut against Sweden in November 2012, scored two Under 21 goals in the 9-0 rout of San Marino last month.

‘When Raheem started, he was outstanding,’ said Rodgers. ‘Then he had a real dip in his performance level for a number of reasons, but I’m always fair with players.’
