Luis Suarez has moved to avoid a repeat of last summer’s transfer speculation by insisting he is staying at Liverpool.

The 27-year-old Uruguayan has scored 30 Premier League goals this season to enhance his reputation as one of the world’s best players and has again been linked with Real Madrid.

But the newly-crowned Professional Footballers’ Association player of the year, who signed a lucrative contract at Anfield in December, insists he is not going anywhere.

When asked in an interview on Uruguayan television station Canal 10 whether they should be contacting him in England or Spain next season, Suarez said: ‘I’m very happy here and my family is happy here. Don’t worry, nothing is going to happen to me. If we could win the Premier League and bring the trophy home it would be incredible, a dream come true.’

Liverpool face a crucial weekend in their hopes to land a first title since 1990.

They travel to Crystal Palace on Monday but before then the league leaders need rivals Everton to do them a favour by stopping Manchester City tomorrow.

Liverpool let the advantage slip with a frustrating 2-0 defeat at home to Chelsea on Sunday and Suarez said: ‘I’m still upset. It was so frustrating. We couldn’t find spaces and we made a mistake that was hard to deal with. We knew the game was going to be hard but it was frustrating when they were using up time.

‘I was upset because of our mistake; we all got nervous and lost control. It was impossible to find spaces to get in. We are hoping Man City lose points, but we have to win our last two games. It’s not going to be easy.’

Suarez, who in 2011 was banned for eight matches after being found guilty of racially abusing Patrice Evra, was pictured with team-mate Philippe Coutinho this week showing his support for Dani Alves, the Barcelona defender who had a banana thrown at him at Villarreal.

‘The picture with Coutinho was because I didn’t like what happened,’ Suarez said. ‘So we had to do something with Phil. I felt I had to do something for my friends.’ – Daily Mail
