London – Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho described his side's 2-2 draw at home to the Premier League's bottom club Sunderland as “a complete disaster”.

“It's a very disappointing result,” said the Brazilian. “The whole team is disappointed about the result, especially in the way we played. The result was a complete disaster for us.”

City were bidding to trim Liverpool's advantage at the top of the table to four points in Wednesday's game, but the draw left them six points off the pace, albeit with another game in hand still to come.

Fernandinho put City in front in the second minute against Sunderland, but the hosts needed an 88th-minute equaliser from Samir Nasri after Connor Wickham's late brace threatened to give the visitors a shock win.

Having lost their previous game 3-2 at Liverpool, City's form appears to be deserting them at just the wrong moment, but Fernandinho believes his side will bounce back when they host West Bromwich Albion on Monday.

“Our focus has to be on West Brom on Monday, and that will be a massive match for us,” he said.

“It's really very hard, after the bad result against Liverpool. But we have to keep our head up and now need to look to West Brom here at home.

“We believe we can win the title. Chelsea and Liverpool have four games and they may drop some points. We think we can still win the title.” – Sapa-AFP
