Wojcieh Szczesny has issued an apology after his father angered Arsenal with a scathing attack on manager Arsene Wenger.
Club officials were said to be hugely disappointed by Maciej Szczesny accusing the Arsenal boss in a Polish newspaper of making his son a ‘scapegoat’ for the club’s below-par season.
The Arsenal goalkeeper has been dropped for the club’s last two matches and his replacement, Lukasz Fabianski, kept consecutive clean sheets in the wins over Bayern Munich and Swansea.
Szczesny, 22, launched a damage-limitation exercise yesterday.
‘I would like to apologise for the comments made by my father,’ he said. ‘Those were the views of my father and not mine and, although I respect his views, I cannot accept them as I find them disrespectful to the club. I am focused on getting back to my best.’
Nevertheless, Szczesny’s future remains in huge doubt, with Wenger keen to sign a new first-choice keeper this summer. – Daily Mail
