United make formal bid for Van Persie

Arsenal's Robin van Persie.

London – Manchester United have made a formal offer for forward Robin van Persie it emerged on Friday, but it is not believed to be sufficient to persuade Arsenal to sell.

Van Persie had made clear he will not extend his contract, which expires next summer, leaving Arsenal looking to sell rather than lose him on a free transfer.

They are understood to want at least £20 million pounds for Van Persie.

Manchester City and Juventus have also made known their interest in the Dutch striker. – Sapa-dpa
