London - Manchester United will sign Luke Shaw from Southampton for £27million.

Shaw was named in England’s World Cup squad on Monday and is also on the brink of completing a transfer to Old Trafford.

The deal is expected to be announced before the tournament in Brazil. Despite finishing seventh in the Premier League this season, United are confident they have won the race for the 18-year-old left back, ahead of Chelsea and Manchester City.

Shaw expects to get first-team football at Old Trafford and that clinched the deal, even though United have yet to name their new manager.

A powerful attacking asset, Shaw will replace France defender Patrice Evra.

United are eager to make up for their errors last summer, when they were slow to make their move in the transfer market, and believe this signing will send out the right message as they start to rebuild. The transfer will lead to a break-up of the Southampton team who impressed many this season, with midfielder Adam Lallana on his way to Liverpool and manager Mauricio Pochettino a target for Tottenham.

At on Monday’s England squad unveiling, Roy Hodgson also made it clear he expects Shaw and Lallana to complete their moves before the World Cup squad head to Miami for their training camp on June 1.

The England manager said: “Anything that happens is not going to be allowed to affect us. You sign up for this World Cup and you sign up to do a good job for England. I am definitely not going to have agents swirling around or players leaving the camp.

“When we are together with England we are England and it is England that matters.

“If you have got matters to resolve you do it outside of England time.”
