London - Jamie Vardy will miss Leicester’s trip to Manchester United on Sunday after a regulatory commission yesterday handed the England international a one-game ban over his FA improper-conduct charge.

In a blow to Leicester’s title hopes, the three-man panel decided the striker’s angry reaction to being sent off against West Ham was worthy of further punishment.

Vardy served the initial ban for his red card during the 4-0 win over Swansea on Sunday, watching from his executive box at the King Power Stadium before attending the PFA awards in London and collecting a commemorative plate for scoring in a record 11 consecutive Premier League games.

The 29-year-old stayed in the capital to attend a personal hearing at Wembley yesterday where he explained the emotion behind his outburst at referee Jon Moss, who had shown him a second yellow card for diving.

Vardy jabbed a finger at Moss and swore but hoped his record of never previously being sent off in the Football League might serve as mitigation. He has also not been booked for simulation before in the Premier League and England manager Roy Hodgson argued that his reaction was ‘human’.

But the panel ruled his aggression warranted a further one-match ban, meaning Vardy - who has scored 22 Premier League goals this season - will be absent for the encounter at Old Trafford as Leicester bid to secure the title. Vardy was also fined £10 000.
