Arsene Wenger will recommend to the Arsenal board that they improve Theo Walcott’s contract offer in an attempt to end the uncertainty over his future.

The Arsenal hierarchy previously told the England forward they were unwilling to increase their £75,000-per-week offer, which was rejected by Walcott in August.

But Sportsmail understands the club’s stance on the issue has softened in recent weeks and they are now willing to reach a compromise with the forward.

It is believed both parties feel an offer of between £80,000 and £85,000 per week will be enough to secure Walcott’s future.

Wenger, who has been impressed by the 23-year-old’s displays in recent weeks, will tell Arsenal’s board to up their existing offer and hopes his intervention will help resolve the issue.
