Cape Town – Ajax Cape Town are just waiting for confirmation from the PSL, but in all likelihood their home fixture against Kaizer Chiefs, scheduled for Saturday, February 25, will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Originally scheduled for Cape Town Stadium, Ajax have been running around in circles over the last week trying to tie up a venue for the game.

“At this stage, to be honest, we have no clue as to where we will be playing our home match against Chiefs next week,” said Ajax chief executive Ari Efstathiou at a press conference on Thursday.

"We are waiting on an answer from the PSL. Cape Town Stadium is not available because it is scheduled to host a music festival. We tried Newlands as an option, but there is a rugby match on that day. As for Athlone, we are concerned about the safety of supporters.

"Over the last few seasons, our home games against Chiefs have regularly seen about 30 000 in attendance. Also, when we last played Sundowns at Athlone, we had a few crowd issues, so the venue wasn’t really an option for us. In addition, we had a meeting with the police and City’s disaster management, and they, too, won’t allow the game against Chiefs to take place at Athlone.

“That left with us with having to take the game out of the Cape, and we explored Port Elizabeth and Durban. I can confirm that we have already made a provisional booking for the Moses Stadium in Durban, but, at this stage, the matter is with the PSL.

"According to the rules, if a club has no venue available, the PSL is free to designate a venue for the match to take place. We have made it easier for the PSL by booking the Durban ground, and we are just waiting on the go-ahead from the league.”
