Durban – Mark Harrison is no longer the coach of Golden Arrows after parting company with the Durban club, the Premiership strugglers announced on Monday.

“The club and Mr Mark Harrison have agreed to part ways in the best interests of the team and wish each other the best for the future,” a statement from the Lamontville outfit read.

“The club has therefore appointed Shaun Bartlett and Bheka Phakathi as caretaker coaches.”

Speculation was rife over his future at the weekend when the Englishman was not on the bench for Saturday's 3-2 Premiership victory over Polokwane City in Umlazi.

Harrison had been holding talks over the weekend about his future, with chairman Mato Madlala reportedly withdrawing him from the dug-out due to uncertainty over his future.

He had been at the helm for just over four months after replacing Manqoba Mngqithi last October.

Abafana Bes'thende are bottom of the league table and in a huge relegation scrap, although the weekend victory drew them level on points with second-last placed rivals Free State Stars, whom they meet this Saturday. - Sapa
