CAPE TOWN – Benni McCarthy is the new head coach of Cape Town City!
The 39-year-old former Bafana Bafana striker replaces Eric Tinkler, who joined SuperSport United last week.
This is McCarthy’s first role as a head coach. He previously had a spell as an assistant coach at Sint Truiden in Belgium.
From Hanover Park on the Cape Flats, he went on to enjoy a stellar career as a player, including winning the UEFA Champions League with FC Porto, when Jose Mourinho was his coach.

Now, having already achieved his UEFA A Licence coaching badge, he is looking to make a success of his coaching career as well.
Benni: I started out as a 17-year-old from Hanover Park, at Seven Stars and I scored the goals. I went to Europe and succeeded @IOL

He has chosen ambitious City as his first coaching job in the PSL - and, after what the team accomplished last season, he has his work cut out.
McCarthy, though, has never been a man who shirks a challenge, and he will view his stint at City as an opportunity to quickly and successfully kick-start his coaching career.
Benni: I know everyone will ask about (lack of experience),but some of the best managers in the world have been successful (like that) @IOL
