Johannesburg – Kaizer Chiefs skipper Itumeleng Khune believes his side has yet to reach their full potential as they prepare for their crucial Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates, at the FNB Stadium, on Saturday.

“We are really looking forward to an interesting derby,” Khune said on Thursday.

“It's one of the biggest in the world, so it's our duty as players to showcase to the world what South African football is all about.”

Chiefs moved five points clear of their bitter rivals on Wednesday, beating Chippa United in Cape Town, while Pirates were held to a 1-1 draw by Bloemfontein Celtic at Orlando Stadium.

Khune said the team would have to be mentally alert throughout the encounter and warned that Pirates would be equally motivated heading into the fixture.

“We know Pirates are dangerous from the very first minute to the last 15, so we have to be disciplined,” he said.

“We'll have to contain them and we'll need the mental strength to do well in the game.

“We just have to go out there and play our normal game. It's a game of 90 minutes like any other game but we know how important it is.”

Despite his cautious approach, Khune conceded that winning the derby was a major achievement on and off the pitch.

“To have bragging rights is also great, so we'll have to go out there and enjoy our football and get the result.” – Sapa
