Chiefs desperate to win league – BaxterComment on this story
New Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter says his team want to win the league at all costs, but he could not guarantee the title.
“We want very, very badly, very passionately to win the league,” he said at a Chiefs press conference in Johannesburg on Thursday.
“That is something everyone associated with Kaizer Chiefs will tell you with all of their heart. I don't think there's anyone here that says we don't want to win the league.”
The former Bafana Bafana coach said all he could assure supporters was that his squad would do everything to achieve their goals of bringing home silverware at the end of the season.
“No one can promise we will win the league. What we can promise is that the boys and the technical staff and supporters will give their back teeth to win the league.
“So, we will do everything that we can. It doesn't mean we can promise it, but we can promise every drop of blood in our body and every drop of sweat we can muster that will go towards trying to win the league.
“And I'm not telling anybody they have to wait. There's no time like the present.”
Chiefs also announced new signings Morgan Gould, Siboniso Gaxa, Kgotso Moleko, Brilliant Khuzwayo, Sakhile Hlongwa, and Siyabonga Nkosi. While Gould and Gaxa are good additions in defence, the Soweto giants are still short on strikers.
Baxter did not say whether Chiefs would need more forwards in the squad.
“Any club all over the world make their signings and then they work with the squad and some people surprise you and they come through very quickly.
“Some people disappoint you. That's football. Parallel to that, you've always got a list of people available.”
He said it would be an ongoing process to find the right players for the right positions.
“We'll see how things go. Some of these guys will surprise me, and be much better than I thought they were, and some are just not going to do it and that may affect the balance of the team.”– Sapa
