Chippa United secured their place in the Premiership for the 2012/13 season with a 4-3 victory over relegated Santos in the final game of the promotion-relegation playoffs at Philippi Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The game got off to an exciting start, with the stadium packed out, mainly in support of hosts Chippa.
The Chilli Boys took control early on, cutting through the Santos defence with relative ease.
They were rewarded after just nine minutes when Mxolisi Ntshingila showed good skill out on the right flank before whipping in a cross for Philani Dlamini to score from close range.
The home side continued to create chances as Dlamini was almost able to get on the end of another Ntshingila cross, while Andile Mbenyane had his 20-metre curler plucked out the air by Pa Demba Touray.
In the 28th minute Chippa's lead was extended to two as William Twala's shot was parried by Touray into the path of Mbenyane for an easy strike from close range.
The Peoples' Team then stormed back into the game with two goals in 12 minutes.
Eleazar Rodgers got the first when he headed home from Salmaan King's corner kick in the 30th minute, and Tyren Arendse equalised with a skilfully taken long-range volley out on the right.
The Chilli Boys had the first chance after the break when Mbenyane sent a free kick sailing narrowly over the bar, but the visitors began to look more threatening, especially down the right wing where Erwin Isaacs was coming into his own.
The hosts nonetheless stretched the gap with their third goal in the 75th minute when Nasief Morris made a hash of a back header, allowing Twala to nip in and sneak the ball past Touray.
Six minutes later Chippa netted their fourth goal as Mbenyane played in to Mfundo Shumana for the latter to score with a composed, cool finish.
There was a late consolation goal for the Peoples' Team two minutes from time when Rodgers netted at the second attempt after his penalty had been saved by Goldman. – Sapa
