Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town coach Roger De Sa is hopeful that new signings Mark Mayambela and Lebohang Mokoena will prove wise acquisitions.

The pair were among a host of new arrivals at the Urban Warriors, although they are arguably the most high profile names to come in at Ikamva.

Mokoena, formerly of Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, and Mayambela, who featured for clubs such as Pirates, Bloemfontein Celtic, Black Aces and SuperSport, both made their debuts when coming off the bench last week in the 2-1 loss to Orlando Pirates. Mayambela in particular made a big impact, coming close on a couple of occasions to salvaging something from the game for his hometown club.

De Sa is satisfied with what he has seen from the pair so far and believes they will prove to be a success at the club. “I was very happy with their performance from the time they've been with us,” said the Ajax boss.

“I think if I analyse the 15 and 25 minutes they played against Pirates would be a bit harsh - they came on when we were chasing the game, and we wanted them to give us something special, so it was always going to be difficult. “I am very happy to have that type of calibre of players to bring on - that's nice to have,” he explained.

“If I was on the opposition bench, it's always a sight to see a player like Mayambela coming on, because you don't know what he's going to do and when he's going to produce something.

“And Cheeseboy is an ever-reliable, consistent player, and you know he will give you good professionalism and a good performance out there all the time, and he's got a good head on his shoulders as well. “So on both, I was pretty content, but I don't think it's fair to judge them on this performance - it's still early days.”
