Johannesburg - Ajax Cape Town extended the contract of coach Roger de Sa until 2018, the club announced on Monday.

De Sa joined the Urban Warriors in February 2014, after a successful stint with Orlando Pirates and immediately showed his prowess as a coach by placing his trust in the young players at the club.

In just a season and a half at the helm, De Sa already promoted five players from the club's prestigious youth academy.

Jody February, Ziyaad Eksteen, Olwethu Nguye, Yagan Sasman and Justin Jacobus were all promoted into Roger De Sa's PSL squad, over the last two seasons.

The 2014/15 PSL season was a successful campaign for De Sa and Ajax, reaching the Nedbank Cup final and securing a top five finish in the league. The start of the 2015/16 PSL season saw the Urban Warriors kick-off the new season in fine fashion, beating defending champions, Kaizer Chiefs to the 2015 MTN8 trophy.

The former Bafana Bafana international's experience of playing in Africa as well as his successful Caf Champions League campaign while in charge of Orlando Pirates, will be a huge advantage for Ajax Cape Town as the club prepares for the Caf Confederations Cup campaign in February 2016.

“Roger has been a revelation at Ajax Cape Town. He has embraced the club's philosophy of promoting youth players to the PSL team,” said Ajax Cape Town CEO, Ari Efstathiou.

“His personality and commitment in his first stint at Ajax Cape Town has shown great results and the management had no hesitation in extending his contract. We are confident in his abilities and are expecting him to ensure that with his guidance Ajax Cape Town will reach new heights.” - ANA
