Linbon - Eric Tinkler may be set to lead Orlando Pirates into battle for the last time in Saturday's Nedbank Cup final against SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

This follows reports that the Buccaneers' head coach is being sounded out by Portuguese Primeira Liga side Vitoria de Setubal, the club he represented as a midfielder between 1992 and 1996.

Vitoria de Setubal are currently without a manager after they parted ways with Quim Machado.

The club finished 10th in the recently completed season.

According to a report by Portuguese publication Zerozero, Setubal are now targeting Tinkler as their new head coach: “After the termination of the contract with Quim Machado, Vitoria Setubal are now looking for a quick solution in the coaching department and the solution may be somewhat surprising, in a bolder bet. Zerozero understands that Eric Tinkler, a former player of the club, was contacted in order to find out if he would be available to take over at the helm.”

The 45-year-old Tinkler has been in charge at Pirates since December 2014, in what has been his first job as a head coach. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach to Roger De Sa at Bidvest Wits and then Pirates.

Under his guidance, Pirates have failed to win any major silverware but did make it to the final of the 2015 CAF Confederation Cup. In the league, they have finished fourth and seventh under the former Bafana Bafana midfielder
