Cape Town – Ajax Cape Town player Rheece Evans has opened up about his move to the Urban Warriors with the former Maitzburg United and Mamelodi Sundowns defender eager to make a name for himself in the Mother City.

Evans was officially announced as an Ajax player at the end of last year, with the 26-year-old penning an 18-month loan deal with the Brazilians. Having started training at Ikamva last week, Evans has had time to take in his new surroundings before sitting to talk to the the club's website www.ajaxct.co.za.

He said: "So far I am enjoying every moment, I feel like I am settling down well – training has been good. We have been working hard, putting in extra effort to try and get the fitness back following the Christmas break. So far I am enjoying it and settling in well."

Asked about working with head coach Stanley Menzo he replied: "First thing I have noticed is that he likes to enforce discipline, everything is run on a time and everything is down to scale. "He values discipline highly and enforces it – I am really impressed and happy about that. I am very happy to be here, it feels like it has been a long time coming.

"Ajax have been after me and I have been trying to move to the club for many years now so in the past it has been very disappointing to see a potential move fall through, but now that I am here I am so relieved and happy. It feels like I’m home."

Talking about his time with Mamelodi Sundowns Evans has these opinions. "Obviously it was very frustrating because I felt like I had a lot to prove and that I wasn’t given a fair opportunity and chance to play.

"I was pushing myself in training and just hoping for a chance, but it never came. Now being here; I feel like I have a lot to prove and gain. A lot to make up for, lost time to catch up on and obviously throw my name out there and make people hear about me again."

Asked whether he had set himself any short term goals Evans said: "I am pushing hard and I would like to make the starting line-up for the first game of the restart to the season. "Obviously I would like to make the starting line-up and who knows maybe get on the score-sheet or provide some assists."
